Bruck an der Mur between history, nature and leisure

Bruck an der Mur combines historic buildings, city walks, experiences in nature and a wide range of leisure activities. The townscape, Schlossberg, the Weitental valley and sports and leisure venues each offer a different focus.

Landscape and spatial orientation

The leisure inland harbor is located not far from the center of Bruck an der Mur, while the Schlossberg plateau offers views over Bruck an der Mur and its surroundings. In terms of orientation, proximity to the center and views over the city thus provide two different spatial reference points.

Historic town and city walks

In the historic townscape, Kornmesserhaus creates a striking architectural accent. The building has six ground-floor arcades with round pillars and a magnificent loggia modeled on Venetian examples. The Church of the Holy Spirit is considered unique in Europe because of its triangular design.

Literature and local history can be combined on the Bruck Literature Trail. Along the trail, you can see the so-called Paradise Rhyme Speech by Hugo von Montfort. The paths on Schlossberg offer a city-walking experience; a walk there is one of the most popular city walks in the entire Upper Styria region. In recent years, Schlossberg has also increasingly been used as a venue for various events.

The Iron Fountain on the main square is also a fixed reference point for orientation in the town center. It has stood there in a prominent position since the beginning of the 17th century. Especially at night, the fountain is a luminous attraction for the people of Bruck.

Nature, walking and cycling

The Weitental valley is about a 20-minute walk from the center of Bruck an der Mur. The Weitental Nature Conservation Center is located in the valley. It was established in 1977 as a rescue station for injured and protected wild animals.

Cycling travelers can also consider Bruck an der Mur as a destination: The Mürztal R5 cycle path ends in the historic town center. This is particularly relevant for travel planning if you would like to combine your stay with a longer cycling tour or consider the historic center the destination of a stage.

Leisure activities for different interests

The Bruck an der Mur Municipal Outdoor Swimming Pool offers plenty of space for spending time outdoors. It has 30,800 m² of lawn and 2,200 m² of water area. Facilities also include a children’s playground, a trampoline area and opportunities for playing football and beach volleyball. The outdoor pool bears the Styrian Quality Seal for Swimming Pools.

For racket sports, Bruck an der Mur has a padel facility with four outdoor courts and three indoor courts. The climbing hall of the Nolimit Alpine School in Bruck an der Mur is one of Austria’s first modern artificial climbing facilities.

At the municipal library & game library, visitors can try out and borrow more than 1,800 different board and card games.

Bruck an der Mur railway station is a transport hub connecting rail and bus services and is also barrier-free.
