Tweng is located in Lungau in the province of Salzburg, on the southern side of the Radstädter Tauern mountains. Part of the Obertauern ski region belongs to the municipality. This gives the village a documented connection to winter sports while also offering activities away from downhill skiing: a 15 km cross-country ski trail, winter hikes, horse-drawn sleigh rides, hiking trails, mountain tours and cultural trails. When looking for accommodation, it is therefore important first to decide whether you would like to organise your stay primarily around the ski region or around the various activities in and around Tweng.

Winter activities with different focuses

The 15 km cross-country ski trail in Tweng is aimed at guests who want to experience winter on narrow skis. As a cross-country skiing option, it is clearly distinct from downhill skiing in the Obertauern ski region. Snow-covered fields and forests also invite you to enjoy idyllic winter hikes as a more peaceful way of getting around. Romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides are also offered in Tweng. This means that several winter activities are available for planning your day, without every excursion having to focus on alpine skiing. The surrounding area also remains active and accessible during the warmer seasons: Tweng has numerous hiking trails and mountain tours, as well as cycling routes. A circular hiking trail is also part of the local offering. Tennfall Waterfall can be reached via the Tweng circular trail. It is located at the entrance to the Lantschfeld Valley. Well-described cultural hiking trails lead to monuments, geological features and scenic natural sites. This may be of interest to you if you would like to choose your stay not exclusively according to winter sports, but according to a combination of activity, landscape and regional destinations.

Attractions around Tweng

One of the special destinations is the Lantschfeld Chapel. It stands at the end of Tweng's Lantschfeld Valley at an elevation of 1,649 metres and has been placed under heritage protection in Tweng by ordinance. Its precise location connects the chapel with the Lantschfeld Valley, while its heritage protection describes its special legal status. The Roman milestones have a different historical connection. They are among the attractions in Tweng and stand beside the B99, the Katschberg Road, at the edge of the forest between Obertauern and Tweng. The Catholic parish church of the Holy Cross is also one of the attractions in Tweng. Thus, in addition to nature and winter sports, the village offers destinations with historical and religious significance. The fact that part of the municipality belongs to the Obertauern ski region does not automatically indicate how far a particular accommodation is from a lift, a slope or the cross-country ski trail. When making your choice, therefore, check the respective location and assess it in relation to your planned activities. If cross-country skiing, winter hiking or cultural trails are important to you, these offerings should be included in your decision just as much as the connection to winter sports through Obertauern.
