The Telecabina de la Massana takes passengers to the Pal area; trails, cycling options and cultural attractions add to the ways to enjoy a visit. When choosing accommodation in La Massana, it helps to consider these different highlights: would you mainly like to use the cable car and cycle, explore routes or discover places of cultural and historical interest?

Taking the Telecabina to the Pal area

The Telecabina de la Massana covers a vertical ascent of 675 metres and travels 2,250 metres to the Pal area. These figures describe different things: 675 metres is the change in elevation, while 2,250 metres is the distance travelled. They should not be confused when planning. In Pal, there are routes and a downhill mountain-bike track; you can also descend by bicycle. During the ride, you can enjoy a view of La Massana from above. If you plan to include the cable car in your visit, check its current operating status with the operator beforehand.

Routes and trail sections

El Camí Ral de la Massana – Route 44 starts in La Massana and leads to a chapel dedicated to Sant Antoni Abat, the patron saint of carriers. The chapel was restored at the end of the 20th century. One section of the route runs along the banks of the Valira on a narrow path with a gentle gradient. This section is shared with pedestrians, so you need to control your speed. The gentle gradient alone does not fully describe the trail conditions: its narrow width and shared use are important too.

The Santa Caterina route is described differently: it is a circular route that starts at Plaça de les Fontetes and leads to Pui Street. The two routes therefore have different features to note: for the Camí Ral, these include a narrow shared section and the need to control your speed; for Santa Caterina, they are its circular format and named landmarks.

Museum, games and local history

La Massana Còmic is located at Plaça de les Fontetes. Since 1997, the museum has held an annual graphic storytelling festival in La Massana in spring. If this event is relevant to your trip, check the specific event dates.

Escape Els Passadors offers a different way to explore history: this outdoor escape-room game introduces participants to the story of the Passadors de la Massana through objects in a suitcase. The parish church of Sant Iscle and Santa Victòria de la Massana dates back to the 17th century and was built on the site of an old medieval temple. Its history therefore connects a 17th-century church building with a medieval predecessor.
