Additional World Cup giant slalom in Kranjska Gora
Winter sports fans in Slovenia can look forward to an additional race in the Alpine Ski World Cup in Kranjska Gora at the end of January. Kranjska Gora is located in Slovenia’s Julian Alps and, as one of the country’s most popular ski resorts, has been a fixture on the Ski World Cup calendar for years. This year, too, the weekend of January 30/31, 2010, has long been scheduled to host a World Cup slalom and giant slalom. Following the weather-related cancellation of the giant slalom in Adelboden, Switzerland, the World Cup weekend in the Julian Alps near Kranjska Gora will now begin on Friday, a day earlier.

The rescheduled World Cup giant slalom on Friday will be followed in Slovenia over the next two days by the slalom and giant slalom races that were already planned. This will give the technical specialists among the world’s top male skiers plenty of opportunity to collect points for the discipline and overall World Cup standings in Kranjska Gora, at the foot of Mojstrovka, one of the highest mountains in the Julian Alps. Ski holidaymakers who have chosen a ski hotel in Kranjska Gora for this time of year will also have ample opportunity to enjoy the slopes and cross-country trails in the Julian Alps while the giant slalom and slalom World Cup events are taking place in Slovenia.
With the ski resort of Kranjska Gora and the Julian Alps, Slovenia is an emerging destination for ski holidays in Eastern Europe. In summer, too, the region around Kranjska Gora is a paradise for mountaineers, hikers and cyclists, thanks to Mojstrovka and the other mountains of the Julian Alps. For now, however, ski holidays and the upcoming World Cup races remain the main focus in Kranjska Gora.
