Ski holidays in Slovenia with many new features
Slovenia lies on the eastern edge of the Alps, where many well-known ski resorts, such as Maribor and Kranjska Gora, can be found. Both Maribor and Kranjska Gora regularly host winter sports events in alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. Holiday apartments and ski hotels in Maribor, Rogla and other regions of Slovenia are also popular choices for private ski holidays in the Alps. This winter, Slovenia has some attractive new offerings for ski holidays in the Alps.
Ski area shared by Slovenia and Italy
We have already reported here on the first ski area shared by Slovenia and Italy, at Kanin and Sella Nevea. But there is also plenty new for skiers and snowboarders to discover and try out in Slovenia in winter 2009/10, in Kranjska Gora, Rogla and Maribor. Kranjska Gora is now particularly family-friendly and is expanding its facilities with a free children's playground in the centre of the ski area. A moving walkway provides safe transport between the holiday apartments in Kranjska Gora and the playground. Those who prefer to enjoy winter sports at night during their ski holiday in Slovenia will find Rogla ideal. This winter, it is offering the so-called "Ski Pass Plus", which is valid on all the region's slopes from 13 - 21 o'clock.

New gondola in Maribor
Just in time for Christmas, a new gondola will begin operating in Maribor, at the foot of Slovenia's Pohorje Mountains. This will double capacity between the valley station and the slopes near the Pohorje peaks, from 500 to 1,000 passengers per hour. Further cable-car projects around Maribor are due for completion in winter 2010/11, bringing total capacity up to 2,400 passengers per hour. Slovenia's ski resorts in the Alps have a combined trail length of just under 300 kilometres and are considered very affordable.   Â
