New Tourism Concept for Winterberg
Winterberg is located in the Hochsauerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia and is considered the most important winter sports area north of the Alps. In addition to skiing, a winter holiday in Winterberg offers almost all other popular sports and leisure activities associated with the cold season. To make Winterberg even more attractive to holidaymakers from the coming ski season onward, experts from various sectors have been working for more than a year on a sustainable concept that encompasses hotels and other accommodation providers as well as the wider range of tourist activities.
Year-round activities in the ski resort of Winterberg
The centerpiece of this concept is a plan to make Winterberg a “five-star holiday destination,” with the aim of improving the year-round activities available in the ski area around Winterberg—not just its winter sports. Each star represents one of five categories: hiking, cycling, family holidays, winter sports, and wellness and health. Under the leadership of Michael Beckmann, Winterberg’s tourism director, various plans were developed in several workshops and are to be implemented step by step over the coming weeks and months.

Summer in Winterberg
Winterberg considers itself well established in cycling, hiking, and winter sports, as might be expected, but sees considerable potential to improve its offerings for family and wellness holidays. To bring these two areas of general tourism up to the same high standard as Winterberg’s ski hotels, plans include all-inclusive family holidays and several active health resorts for wellness visitors at Kahler Asten. Together with the existing offerings in all five categories, Winterberg aims to further strengthen its market-leading position north of the Alps and no longer depend solely on winter ski holidaymakers.
