The Chamonix ski area offers breathtaking panoramic views of a majestic mountain landscape. To the south stands Mont Blanc (4,807 m), towering above all the other peaks. Mont Blanc is considered the highest peak in the Alps. There are also many illustrious names: Brévent, Grand Montets and Vallée Blanche are absolute Alpine highlights.
The varied Vallée Blanche ski route is extremely popular with freeriders. It is also considered one of the most beautiful routes in the Alps. Its starting point can be reached by cable car. However, the route is neither marked nor patrolled. It is open for skiing between January and May.
Although Chamonix is a favorite destination for extreme sports enthusiasts, less experienced skiers will also find ideal runs here. For example, the Col de Balme piste and the south-facing slopes of La Flégère-Brevent are perfect for beginners. Brévent also has steep deep-snow runs, of course. These are best left to the experts to show what they can do. The same goes for the Aiguille du Midi descents opposite.
Although so many skiers flock to Chamonix, it has managed to preserve its French village charm. The old village center in particular exudes a rustic, family-friendly French atmosphere. The town has 10,000 inhabitants and, alongside luxury boutiques, sports shops and elegant Michelin-starred restaurants, also has houses typical of the region. The same is true of its accommodation. From first-class luxury hotels and chalets to larch-wood houses, there is something for everyone.
