St. Moritz has a special ambience. It is one of the best-known ski resorts in the world. At an altitude of around 1,865 metres, it lies amid a beautiful landscape of lakes and mountains in the Swiss Engadin. Snow conditions are generally reliable, and the area enjoys plenty of sunshine. On average, the sun shines here 320 days a year.
For a night out, there’s the Alpina Hut, Dracula Club or King’s Club at the Palace Hotel. At the legendary King’s Club, champagne bottles are no longer thrown against the walls as they were in Gunther Sachs’s heyday. Nor do the girls dance on the tables anymore.
Although Russian millionaires have now discovered St. Moritz too. There are plenty of stories about champagne-fuelled excesses and trashed hotel rooms. Nevertheless, people are keen to learn Russian, because Russians are generous with their money. They don’t haggle over discounts either. And money is the key to the exclusive ski resort of St. Moritz.
It’s a shame that it is so often only St. Moritz’s celebrities who make the headlines. The breathtaking ski area, set against an impressive mountain backdrop and featuring first-class slopes, deserves headlines of its own.
