Ski areas in the Seefeld Olympic Region to merge
Good things come to those who wait. That, or something similar, must surely be the motto for the Gschwandtkopf and Rosshütte ski areas in the Seefeld Olympic Region, which are currently pushing ahead with a merger. The merger of the two ski areas has been under discussion for no less than 15 years, and it is now gathering momentum once again, primarily thanks to the initiative of the lift operators and the Seefeld Olympic Region Tourism Association.
Gschwandkopf and Rosshütte ski areas
Dipl.-Ing. Robert Steinwander, chair of the Technical Committee of the Cableway Industry Association, was commissioned as an expert to prepare a feasibility study on merging the Gschwandkopf and Rosshütte ski areas. The plans, which also took into account the future connection between the pedestrian zone and the lift station at Gschwandkopf, have now been presented to the mayors of Seefeld, Leutasch and Reith, as well as representatives of the lift operators. According to the study, a merger of the Gschwandkopf and Rosshütte ski areas would bring virtually nothing but benefits for everyone involved, meaning that, if everything goes according to plan, it could be completed as early as the beginning of 2010.

Benefits for the Seefeld Olympic Region
Synergies could be achieved above all by bringing together expertise in alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, which has so far been kept separate. The previously rather limited parking situation would also improve significantly, and bus connections could be made much more convenient. Finally, the shops in the pedestrian zone would also benefit from more activity in the shopping arcade right next to the ski slopes. With the 2011 World Ski Championships in Garmisch, the next major sporting highlight in the Seefeld Olympic Region is already just around the corner.
