Snow-Sure Skiing in Val Thorens

The small mountain village of Val Thorens, home to just 500 people, welcomes skiers as soon as the first snow falls in November. The ski season in this vast ski area lasts until early May. Skiing, carving and snowboarding in glorious powder snow beneath majestic mountain peaks—that’s a ski holiday in the fascinating “3 Vallées” ski area in Val Thorens. Together with Courchevel, La Tania, Meribel, Les Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Val Thorens forms the famous ski area on the Italian border.

It’s hard to cover 25 peaks and around 600 kilometers of slopes in a single ski holiday. Skiing also gets more difficult the higher the runs are. But there’s a favorite slope here for every ability level. The choice is enormous. The ski area around Val Thorens alone offers around 170 km of slopes. The run on Le Gébroulaz, at 3,500 m, is 22 km long.

Snowboarders and freestylers show off their tricks on the 115 m-long halfpipe in the snowpark. Beginners can also take their first turns on the 1 km-long Espace Junior slope.

The fantastic location of Val Thorens is ideal for skiers, as the resort is right next to the slopes. You can practically ski straight from the breakfast table onto the runs.

Another highlight is the newly announced “snow guarantee.” The ski area’s high altitude creates favorable snow conditions. According to the Val Thorens organizers, at least 70 percent of the lifts are due to be guaranteed to operate as early as next season.
