Zugspitze opens ski holiday season with Snow Festival

Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze, kicks off the ski holiday season on Sunday, November 23, 2008. It is the first ski area in Germany to do so. Frau Holle is being very kind to skiers on holiday. The fresh snow on the Zugspitze provides excellent conditions for a ski holiday there. The two ski lifts, Gletschersee and Schneefernerkopf, are ready to go. Thanks to the perfect ski conditions on the Zugspitze, they can start operating as early as November 23. There is already 20 cm of fresh snow, with more snowfall expected.

The Zugspitze’s SonnAlpin restaurant is also ready to welcome visitors. So is the Gletschergarten, which opened in May 2007. The glass pavilion, with 220 seats and a show kitchen, offers breathtaking views of the fascinating mountain scenery—and, of course, excellent food.

Snow Festival, November 29–30, 2008

Another highlight on the Zugspitze is the Snow Festival, taking place from November 29 to 30, 2008. The German Ski Instructors’ Association and Bayerische Zugspitzbahn are celebrating the start of the ski season. “Get into winter with a fresh start” is the motto for young and older ski fans alike. The event is aimed especially at the 50-plus generation. Sporting legends Rosi Mittermaier, Christian Neureuther and Fuzzy Garhammer will be there. They will host the activity areas together with DSLV professionals. In addition, 60-year-old Fuzzy Garhammer will demonstrate spectacular freestyle tricks in the easy fun park. In the “Better in your stride” area, Christian Neureuther will advise advanced skiers. Rosi Mittermaier will offer tips in the Schwung light arena on getting started in skiing safely and with ease.

Ski tests and three activity races are also, of course, part of the big Snow Festival program. The Zugspitze glacier ski area has plenty of natural snow to offer. All generations are sure to meet on this powder snow to try out the latest ski equipment.
