Skiing in the Bernese Oberland

People in the Bernese Oberland have loved skiing for generations. The region’s proximity to the charming city of Bern may play a key role, as Switzerland’s second-largest city makes it quick and easy to reach the ski resorts in the Bernese Oberland. In some well-known ski resorts, skiing in the Bernese Oberland is even a tradition.

The trio of Wetterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau

Places such as Adelboden, Mürren and Gstaad, and especially the ski resort of Grindelwald, are known internationally. With views of perhaps the three most beautiful mountains in the Bernese Oberland, holiday apartments in Grindelwald should indeed be booked well in advance of the ski season. With alpine pride, the trio of Wetterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau stands as the hallmark of the Bernese Oberland. Many holiday homes in the Bernese Oberland, as well as its hotels, have balconies and terraces positioned to face the mountains. But the Bernese Oberland naturally has many other attractions. Its lakes, such as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, the health resort of Interlaken and, above all, its glaciers invite visitors to go skiing or snowshoeing. Other excursion destinations include the Sphinx terraces, the highest railway station, the St. Beatus Caves and the Ice Palace. UNESCO designated the region as worthy of protection, and the Bernese Oberland, with its ski resorts and ski arenas, is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
