Queensbury: Nature Trails, Wetlands and Recreation
Accommodation in Queensbury
Queensbury offers a variety of recreational destinations: trails through wetlands, a nature preserve with views of the Hudson River, mountain biking trails, and an outdoor pool. These places differ both in their landscapes and in the types of activities they offer. Trail lengths, a designated nature preserve, and a mountain biking trail network provide different points of reference for exploring Queensbury according to your interests.
Trails Through Wetlands and Woodlands
The Rush Pond Trail is 2.6 miles long and runs through the wetlands of Rush Pond. It connects the Gurney Lane Recreation Area, residential areas along the Aviation Road corridor, and the Queensbury School Campus trail network. In addition to its natural setting, the trail is notable for connecting these three named areas. The trail includes three hand-built bridges. From the largest, you can enjoy views of the wetlands and life in the stream.
When comparing it with the Halfway Brook Trail, length provides a common point of reference: at 2.6 miles, Rush Pond is 1.4 miles longer than the 1.2-mile Halfway Brook Trail. This makes it easy to compare the two distances when planning your own route.
The Halfway Brook Trail runs through the City of Glens Falls watershed, locally known as “Potter’s Woods.” An agreement between the City of Glens Falls and the Town of Queensbury allows the public access for passive recreation. Keep this restriction in mind when planning your visit. Along the way, the trail passes through sections of a managed tree farm and wetlands rich in wildlife. It also crosses a hand-built bridge over Halfway Brook.
Marked Trails, Mountain Biking Routes, and an Outdoor Pool
Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve covers 83 acres and offers marked trails and views of the Hudson River. The acreage refers to the nature preserve as a whole; the marked trails and river views give its natural setting a distinctive character. This makes it a different kind of destination in Queensbury from the two named trails through wetlands.
Those interested in mountain biking will find more than 13 miles of singletrack and doubletrack trails at Gurney Lane Mountain Bike Park. Both trail types are specifically designated for mountain biking. The distance describes a network of trails rather than just one trail, so it is best understood differently from the trail lengths for Rush Pond and Halfway Brook.
Another recreational option is the Gurney Lane Recreation Area, which has a 6,200-square-foot outdoor pool. The pool includes a 1-meter diving well and a slide. Its size and amenities are specified, while the trails and mountain biking options are described in terms of their landscapes, trail types, or lengths. Queensbury thus offers several clearly distinct ways to plan your stay.
You can make your choice based on the places you actually want to visit.
