Geographical location

La Fouly is a village in the municipality of Orsières in the canton of Valais, at an altitude of 1,592 metres at the end of Val Ferret. The village lies at the foot of Mont Dolent and Tour Noir in the Mont Blanc Massif and near the tripoint of France, Italy and Switzerland.

Nature and trails

La Maye, Pointes des Six Niers, La Tsavre and Clocher de Vouasse are located in the immediate vicinity of La Fouly. Le Crêt is situated in the surrounding area.

From La Fouly, hiking trails lead south over the Petit and Grand Col Ferret towards Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley.

Culture

The village is home to a chapel dedicated to Nicholas of Flüe. Historically, La Fouly served as a mayen of Orsières. This function was associated with seasonal transhumance towards the alpine pastures of Val Ferret and with stone huts used by shepherds.
