Geographical setting
The Zwischberg Valley is considered a wild valley stretching 16 kilometres. It is surrounded by mountain peaks reaching heights of up to 4,000 metres. Furmulegrat and Cima del Tirone are located in the vicinity of Zwischbergen. Costa del Dosso and Wenghorn are situated in the surrounding area.
Culture
Zwischbergen is considered a medieval Walser settlement and a German-speaking municipality on the southern side of the Alps. Gmeinalp is located in the surrounding area. The Parrocchia Ss. Gervasio E Protasio is also nearby; further afield in the region lies the Chiesa Parrocchiale della Beata Vergine del Rosario.
Gold mines at the entrance to the valley have been known since Roman times; today, they are open to visitors. The Stockalper Trail passes through the Zwischberg Valley and by the mines.
Hiking
The valley offers old smugglers’ trails as well as cross-border day hikes to Italy and back. The hike to Lake Tschawiner includes seven mountain lakes.
Transport
During the summer months, PostAuto PubliCar connects Gondo and Bord in the Zwischberg Valley. According to the timetable, advance registration by telephone is required.
