Calonico: Hotels and accommodation

The village centre of Calonico is characterised by wooden houses with stone-slab roofs; their log-house construction is associated with the migration of the Walser people. Casa Regina is also part of this villagescape: it dates from 1684 and was renovated after 1984.

Culture and history

A restored 18th-century mill can be visited. The historic village mill was used mainly to process chestnuts, rye and barley. The parish church of San Martino stands on a rocky outcrop, is visible from the valley floor and has been documented since as early as 1300. Calonico is an outlying settlement of Faido in the Leventina Valley. The village lies at an altitude of approximately 981 metres above sea level, has around 50 inhabitants and covers an area of 3.2 square kilometres. From Lavorgo, you can reach Calonico via a cantonal road; the distance from Lavorgo is 6 kilometres.
