History

Ghirone was formerly an independent municipality; on 22 October 2006, it was incorporated into the municipality of Blenio. Baselga, then a hamlet of Ghirone, was destroyed by an avalanche in March 1851. Further avalanches affected Cozzera and Buttino in the winter of 1950–1951.
