The UNESCO-listed urban ensemble of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle was created for watchmaking and is considered an exceptional example of cities organized around a single industry. It includes homes designed for home-based work, patronage houses, workshops, and factories built later. The watchmaking focus of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle remains active; at the same time, the orderly street plans laid out in the first half of the 19th century have been preserved.

Culture
The Parcours horloger follows a 39-stop walking route through Le Locle’s watchmaking heritage. It begins in front of Le Locle Town Hall and ends at the Musée d’horlogerie du Locle in Château des Monts.
The Musée d’horlogerie du Locle displays automata, pendulum clocks, and exceptional timepieces. Château des Monts devotes its entire top floor to the history of timekeeping. In the museum’s restoration workshop, visitors can observe restoration work in real time. The museum is served by bus route 341 at the Château des Monts stop.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts presents temporary exhibitions three times a year. It also organizes a triennial devoted to contemporary printmaking and houses the Fondation Lermite.
The permanent exhibition at the Moulins souterrains du Col-des-Roches presents the regional archaeological and historical context of the site. Five water wheels powered mills, a sawmill, a fulling mill, and an oil mill there.
Nature
The “Le Tremplin de la Combe-Girard” trail is an approximately 30-minute forest path with free access year-round. The nature trail in Le Locle leads through the Joux Pélichet and Combe Girard forests and includes educational panels explaining the importance and role of forests.
Winter
Le Locle offers nine snowshoe routes with a total length of 25 km; the trails are supported by route markings and signage.
History
At the former Combe-Girard ski-jumping site, preserved structures reach up to 27 metres. For almost 60 years, the site was an important venue for ski jumping in Switzerland and Europe.
Geographical Setting
In the nearby area, regular boat services from Les Brenets travel through the meanders of the Doubs to the Saut-du-Doubs.
Le Locle is connected by rail and road via the tunnel beneath the Vue-des-Alpes.
