Culture

The Maison forte d’Arare is a residential building from the 15th and 16th centuries protected as cantonal cultural heritage. Preserved features include a round entrance tower, monumental fireplaces from the respective period, ceilings with exposed beams, and carved elements.

Of the medieval castle of Saconnex-d’Arve, built around 1300, the Tour de l’ancien château de Saconnex-d’Arve has survived as a preserved tower protected at cantonal level. A large part of the Bois du Milly and étangs de la Bistoquette sector has been a nature reserve managed by the canton since June 26, 2013. The area is used for observing amphibians, mammals, birds, dragonflies, butterflies, and other insects. New paths have been created to guide walkers and protect the forest.

Plan-les-Ouates has seven walking and hiking routes lasting one to two hours. Their themes include historical, architectural, and environmental features. The Ancien pressoir à vin is a symbol of Plan-les-Ouates’ winegrowing history.

The Via Jacobi pilgrimage route crosses Switzerland from Lake Constance to Geneva; Plan-les-Ouates is one of the stops along the route.
