Culture

Villa Bernasconi is an art centre run by the City of Lancy. Each year, it presents three exhibitions featuring contemporary art, comics and illustration. If you would like to distinguish between visual topics with different focuses, you can consider these separately when planning your day. Villa Bernasconi also hosts performances, readings and workshops for children. If you are travelling with children, you can regard the workshop as a format in its own right alongside the performance and reading.

A second art space in the City of Lancy is Ferme de la Chapelle. History

Villa Bernasconi should be classified as a manor house. It was built in 1828 and inhabited by the Soret family from 1831 onwards. If you give culture and history different weight, you can view the building both through its use as an art centre and through its period of construction. Château de Lancy is a neoclassical building. It was built between 1817 and 1819 for Charles Pictet de Rochemont. For this building, the architectural style, construction period and the person for whom it was built are all relevant aspects of its historical consideration.

Trails and Parks

The Promenade Nicolas Bouvier connects the upper and lower parts of Lancy, is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, and passes through numerous public parks.

If you are weighing buildings against an outdoor route, you can treat the promenade as its own category. Someone focusing on movement will interpret the route differently from someone who places exhibitions and buildings at the centre. Organise indoor spaces, routes and park areas according to your own interests; no fixed order is required. You can also consider the two perspectives one after the other: first a building or a programme format, then an open-air route.
