Heimberg: Hotels and Accommodation

The history of Heimberg includes Heimberg Castle. Its castle site remained undiscovered for almost 800 years before it was identified and researched in 2018. The site is freely accessible. Two information panels describe the site and its history; a bench provides a place to rest.

The castle site can be reached via a forest path that follows the markings of a hiking trail. It can also be visited on a circular trail that begins at Heimberg railway station.

History and Culture

Around 1850, Heimberg had 80 pottery workshops, and the village was known as a pottery village. At the 1878 Paris World's Fair, potters from the Heimberg-Steffisburg region achieved great success with Thun majolica tableware.

The collection at the Museum of the Old Pottery focuses on majolica works and works by former potters from the Heimberg-Steffisburg area. The program includes pottery events and temporary exhibitions. Private group tours can be arranged there; pottery courses can also be organized through the museum.

Getting Around Locally

A bus stop and a railway station are located near the Museum of the Old Pottery. From Lädeli, the museum is about a five-minute walk away. The stops along the museum trail can be visited in any order.
