Wattenwil: Hotels and Accommodation

Routes and Excursions

The lower section of the Gürbe white-water trail is suitable for pushchairs. The trail leads from Wattenwil to the Gurnigel mountain lodge; the route takes approximately four hours and fifteen minutes.

Near the border between Wattenwil and Burgistein is the Heimenried barbecue area, which can be used free of charge. Grundbach is a recreational and excursion destination for Thun and Bern.

Landscape

The flat Gürbe alluvial plain lies around the village centre and in Gmeis and Mettlen. In contrast, there is the elevated Rain (Grundbach). From Grundbach, you can see across the area around Lake Thun and towards the Bernese Alps.

Culture and History

The older building stock includes the Alpine building types Tätschhaus and Länderhaus, as well as the Mittellandhaus and timber-framed buildings. The vicarage and the church are culturally interesting buildings.

Wattenwil is first documented in the mid-13th century as “Watinwile”. Finds and excavations in the Wattenwil area point to settlements from the Bronze Age and the Roman period.

The church is open during the day and provides a pilgrim stamp for pilgrim passports on the Way of St. James.
