Culture and Townscape
The Henry Dunant Museum is located in the building where Henry Dunant lived as a pensioner until his death in 1910. The museum is accessible; the exhibition is on the ground floor, and there are no stairs. A peace bell from Nagasaki stands in front of the building.
Heiden’s Biedermeier-classical town center was rebuilt in 1839/40 after a major fire destroyed most of the town. The church square forms a unified ensemble at the intersection of long, straight streets.
Heiden has a local museum called Museum Heiden, which is connected with an architecture-focused tour through the town. Chindlistei is a sandstone rock at an elevation of 940 meters with older and newer markings.

The final stage of the Kulturspur begins in Heiden. The Kulturspur from Heiden to Walzenhausen is approximately 11 kilometers long, takes about 2 hours and 55 minutes, and includes around 340 meters of ascent.
The Appenzeller Heilbad is located along the Heiden–Kaien route and can be reached on foot, by post bus, or by car.
Heiden swimming pool features a 50-meter sports pool, a diving pool with 1-, 3-, and 5-meter diving boards, a non-swimmer pool, and a children’s paddling pool.

The open-air swimming pool south of Heiden represents New Building architecture through its strictly geometric design.
Heiden has a railway station served by the Appenzeller Bahn. The Henry Dunant Museum can be reached from Rorschach by the S25 rack railway; a transfer is required in Heiden.
