History

The documented settlement history of Unterkulm dates back to 1045. At that time, the former name of the Roman estate, Columbaria, first appeared as the name of a village and settlement. In 1295, the village was divided into the politically independent municipalities of Oberkulm and Unterkulm.

Unterkulm has held market rights since 1818 and is regarded as a place where four annual trade fairs continue to be held.
