Muhen is a municipality in Switzerland, in the canton of Aargau and the district of Aarau, on the eastern edge of the lower Suhre Valley.

Geographical Location

Muhen is located on the northwestern slope of a ridge between the Suhre Valley and the Wynental. The three former sections stand on alluvial fans at the mouths of deeply incised valleys. The Suhre flows through the village, while the surrounding plain is flat.

History

Muhen's medieval political history is connected with the Counts of Lenzburg and Kyburg; the area later came under Habsburg rule. Around 1350, the Muhenamt judicial district was established.

After the Confederates conquered Aargau in 1415, Muhen became part of Bernese Aargau. Since the founding of the Helvetic Republic in 1798, Muhen has belonged to the canton of Aargau.
