The Zagorje Mining Museum first opened its doors on 17 November 1995 to commemorate 240 years of mining in the Zagorje Valley. Its collection on mining history includes photographs, tools, rocks, and equipment used by miners. The museum is designed as an interactive museum and can be explored independently using a smartphone. In this way, it combines the documented history of mining with an independent form of museum visit.

Culture

Another cultural venue is the Ladko Korošec Memorial Room. The multimedia room is located in the Weinberger House, where Korošec played his recordings to friends for the first time upon his return to Zagorje. His image and unmistakable voice are the focus of the memorial room.

The f 2.8 Photo Gallery is also one of the established cultural venues in Zagorje ob Savi. It was established in August 2020 next to the former miners’ bathhouse “Vašhava” in Zagorje ob Savi. The exhibition area focuses on selected photographers from Zasavje as well as outstanding artists from throughout Slovenia.

Events

The Slovenian Flute Festival was held in Zagorje ob Savi for the first time in 1996 and takes place every two years. The program includes concerts, master classes, public lessons, workshops, panel discussions, and project presentations. The festival is complemented by exhibitions of flutes, sheet music, and musical accessories.

The Revija Zagorje ob Savi also takes place every two years. The competition for children’s and youth choirs has been held since 1968, continuing a long-standing tradition of musical events.

History

Dr. Janez Drnovšek Park features a bronze bust of Dr. Janez Drnovšek, a sign marking the 15th meridian, and the sculpture “Turn of the Century” (“Prelom stoletja”). The park is located in the town center next to the regional road through Zagorje. Other historical references in the town include a fountain with a bronze fibula. It displays a replica of a Hallstatt-period belt buckle found in Zagorje at the end of the 19th century.

Flowering Japanese cherry trees grow in Zagorje ob Savi in two rows: one is located next to the medical center, and the other between the bypass road and Medija.

Evropark is a sports and recreation park created by restoring the former Ruardi area used for slag and mining waste. In addition to two interconnected flow-through pools, the park has walking paths and a cycle path.

For mountain biking, the Cilenca Mountain Bike Park offers four routes: Forest Bump (Flow), Jumanji, Super Mario, and French Connection. Iskranjca is a challenging trail approximately 5.4 kilometers long, running from Zagorje railway station to the pond in Zagorje.
