Spa Resort Between the Promenade and Spa Park
Rogaška Slatina is a spa resort with a 400-year tradition and the unique Donat Mg mineral water. The healing properties of the waters in the Rogaška Slatina area were first mentioned in 1572. The spa promenade runs between Secession buildings and has connected the famous spa resort with its world-class medical centre for centuries. The spa park is the central part of Rogaška Slatina and, together with the promenade, forms the heart of the spa complex.
The spa park covers 10,000 m². Its plants include 4,500 boxwood shrubs, 7,400 annual plants, 7,500 perennial plants and 700 roses. A modern drinking hall for Donat water with 11 fountains was built next to the Rogaška health resort building in 1967. Spa guests and visitors can still draw Donat water themselves in the drinking hall. Donat drinking therapy takes place in the mineral water drinking hall of the Medical Center Rogaška.
Janina Ski Resort and Hiking Trails in the Surrounding Area
Janina is home to the lowest-altitude ski resort in Slovenia. The Janina route leads from the Grand Hotel Donat via Palčkova hišica and the Janina viewing tower, continuing along Izletniška ulica to the car park of the Municipality of Rogaška Slatina. The peaks in the immediate vicinity of Rogaška Slatina can be reached via nine hiking trails of varying difficulty. The Polžkova Trail follows marked paths to the nearby elevations of Janina, Tržišče, Cvetlični and Grilov hrib. Rogaška Slatina and its surroundings also have a 22-kilometre cycling network.
Crystal Tower with Panoramic Views
The Crystal Tower is the tallest tower and the tallest building in Slovenia. From its viewing platform, 100 metres above the ground, visitors can see all of Rogaška Slatina and take a virtual tour with the winged Pegasus. The open rooftop terrace allows visitors to walk around the highest point of Slovenia’s tallest building.
Cultural Monuments and Museums
Villa Zlatorog in Rogaška Slatina is a cultural monument of local importance. With its articulated exterior and high-quality wooden architectural elements, it is a picturesque example of a residential villa in Rogaška Slatina. Calska gorca in Cerovec pod Bočem is designated as a cultural monument. Calska gorca was built in the second half of the 19th century and features a vaulted cellar, a black kitchen, living quarters and a wine press.
Juneževa domačija is a protected open-air ethnographic museum. Juneževa domačija includes a restored old farmhouse with a black kitchen from the 19th century, as well as original period furnishings and inventory. Anin dvor presents eight thematic museum collections on the rich history and most important sights of Rogaška Slatina.
Glass, Crafts and Events
The Steklarna Rogaška tourist route allows visitors to see all stages in the production of high-quality crystal glass: from preparing the raw materials, through blowing and shaping the glass, to manually cutting and finishing the products. The Crystal Hall of the Grand Hotel Rogaška is equipped with five handmade crystal chandeliers from Steklarna Rogaška.
The Temple Pavilion stands above the former main spring and was designed by the Trieste architect Matteo Pertsch. Cultural events take place in the oval temple. Orglarstvo Škrabl manufactures and restores organs, harmoniums and other instruments.
Regional Specialities
As part of an authentic experience, GAJA members welcome visitors with the typical yeast-cake speciality Slatina jerpica, the quark-filled pastry zavihjenča and the layered bread mlinčofka from the local wood-fired oven, accompanied by a glass of homemade wine.
