Slovenska Bistrica: Culture, Trails and Vineyards

Slovenska Bistrica Castle was first mentioned in writing in 1313. Today, it serves as the most important cultural centre of the town and municipality. This means that one building combines both a historical connection and a present-day cultural function.

Culture

Slovenska Bistrica was developed on the site of the former Roman settlement of Civitas Negotiana. This historical connection extends beyond the castle's first written mention and places the town's history within an earlier settlement phase.

The parish church of St Bartholomew is an exceptional monument of Styrian Baroque because of its architecture, paintings and furnishings. Baroque murals decorate the presbytery and both chapels of the parish church of St Bartholomew.
