Culture

Historical buildings include Tavčarjev dvor, a single-storey stone building in Rečica ob Savinji that was built in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. In German documents, the building is referred to as Tautscher Hof. The Church of Saint Cantius also has a long history: in 1173, the Patriarch of Aquileia, Udarlik, held a meeting there with numerous dignitaries. The present-day church was almost entirely rebuilt after the fire of 1799. The parish of Rečica ob Savinji is dedicated to Saint Cantius, a martyr.

Nature

The natural features of the town include the Bohačeva linden, listed under the name Turnškova linden in the register of natural values of local importance. Župnekovo žrelo is a cave that functions as an intermittent spring or a spring shaft from which water emerges periodically. It is easily accessible, and entry is free. The Tesna Gorge is also located near Dol–Suha. It is approximately 50 metres long, more than 10 metres deep and about 2 metres wide.

Events and Regional Cuisine

The event “Večer pod trško lipo” takes place beneath the crown of the Bohačeva linden. The annual events programme also includes ŠtrukljiFest: it takes place every year on the last Sunday in August on the fire station grounds in Šentjanž/Grušovlje in Rečica ob Savinji. Various štruklji are sampled at the festival, which also features a rich cultural programme.

Visitors can try zgornjesavinjski želodec at the “Ocenjevanje želodcev” event or on a farm. “Od lipe do prangerja” is a traditional tourist event and is one of the oldest events of its kind in the Upper Savinja Valley. Lenartov sejem is an event that revives the memory of the former market atmosphere in the Upper Savinja Valley. Rečica ob Savinji also holds the bronze Slovenia Green Destination label.

Active Activities

The Slovenia Green Wellness Route passes through the Ljubno/Rečica section along the Ljubljana–Kamnik–Ljubno/Rečica–Velenje route. The route involves an average of approximately 40 kilometres of moderate cycling per day on mixed surfaces; more than two-thirds of the route is paved. It can also be explored in shorter sections, for example at weekends, with the help of rail connections.

On the Savinja, water sports, kayaking and rafting are among the experiences available in Rečica ob Savinji.
