Meranovo is located in Limbuš, on Prinčev vrh above the village. Meranovo is a centre for research into viticulture and winemaking and has a gene bank with more than 400 different grape varieties. Organised wine tastings are offered for groups of 10 to 50 people. They include a tour of the estate and a visit to the hybrid exhibition “Archduke Johann, Father of Meranovo”. Viticulture, grape varieties and the history of the estate come together here.

Viticulture

The Pot na Meranovo trail begins in Limbuš at the intersection of Ob Blažovnici and Pod gričem streets. The hiking trail crosses the hill where Lembach Castle once stood, then follows the Vrhov Dol ridge to Meranovo and offers beautiful views along the way. The route is 3.7 kilometres long, takes about one hour and is considered a less demanding hike. With its named starting point, historic hill and route along the ridge, the trail is closely connected with the places between Limbuš and Meranovo.

BIKE Maribor is a circular cycling route through Maribor and the surrounding settlements. The BIKE Maribor route follows existing local and urban roads, public paths and cycle paths, as well as cycle paths running alongside national roads in some sections. The route described therefore includes several different types of paths in and around Maribor.

History

Limbuš Castle stood on Grajski grič above the village of Limbuš in the Municipality of Maribor. Today, only castle ruins are visible, overgrown with green hills. The Limbuš castle complex has been protected as an immovable monument of local importance since 8 April 1992. The current condition of the complex and its protected status are therefore clearly identified historical features of the area.

The church in Limbuš also dates back a long way. The original Gothic church was built around 1300 and first mentioned in writing in 1387. The famous Grozdni Altar from the early 18th century is located in the Kronane glave chapel. The buildings and altar mentioned here represent different periods in the local history, and their respective dates of origin do not coincide.

Water and Nature

Mariborsko jezero is designated as a protected landscape park. Sailing, windsurfing and rowing are possible on Mariborsko jezero. The southern shore is mostly forested and has shallow areas described as interesting habitats in and around the water. Kayaks, canoes, SUP boards and rowing boats are available for hire at the Drava Center in Limbuš. The contact address given for the Mariborsko jezero Landscape Park is Limbuško nabrežje, 2341 Limbuš.
