Lysá Pod Makytou: Dešná and Javorníky Ski Parks

The Skipark Dešná ski area, with two downhill runs, is located within the cadastral territory of Lysá pod Makytou.

Geographical setting

Lysá pod Makytou lies in the Lýssky Pass at the foot of the Javorníky and White Carpathian Mountains. The municipality covers hilly, upland and mountainous terrain at elevations ranging from approximately 350 to 922 m. Lysá pod Makytou is a Slovak border municipality on the border with the Czech Republic. Outside the village center, the landscape is characterized by 32 Kopanice settlements.

Winter, trails and landscape

Hiking trail 8584 from Lysá pod Makytou to Makyta alternates between forests and meadows. The route passes through the Okrajkovci settlement and by a cross before reaching the Hrnčár saddle; from there, there are views of the surrounding area.

During summer and autumn walks through the landscape around Lysá pod Makytou, you can find wild strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. With a little luck, you may also find blueberries in the Beňadín district.

For cyclists, the green road cycling route 5314, classified as REKREA, begins in Lysá pod Makytou at a junction with a red cycle highway. It is 15.6 km long, has an asphalt surface and a stated elevation difference of 607 m uphill and 66 m downhill.

Route 5314 ends at the Javorka saddle below Kohútka, at a junction with the red Javornícka cycle highway. This route runs from Lúky pod Makytou to Lysá pod Makytou, crosses the road there and then climbs through the village streets.

The Javornícka cycle highway is red route 053 for experienced mountain bikers. It is 19.8 km long; the listed surfaces are asphalt, gravel and natural ground. The lengths, surfaces and elevation differences help distinguish the two cycling options when planning.

Culture and village life

The annual Folklórna Lysá folklore event is held in the amphitheater of Lysá pod Makytou. Traditional songs, music and dances are presented there. Folklórna Lysá also includes a street of craftspeople and creative workshops for children.

The Church of Saint Stephen stands in the village center. It is a Neoclassical, single-nave church with an incorporated tower and a main altar dating from 1824. The church contains an artistically valuable statue of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, created by the Kafkovi brothers from Moravia.

A wooden bell tower dating from 1933 stands in the Strelenka district. Lysá pod Makytou also has a former state school building dating from 1912.

A publicly accessible multifunctional sports field on the school grounds in Lysá pod Makytou is available to children, young people and adults. It is suitable, among other things, for small-sided football, nohejbal, volleyball, tennis, handball and floorball.
