Lazy Pod Makytou – Ski Hotel and SKI Čertov

Lazy pod Makytou lies at the foot and on the slopes of the Javorníky Mountains and stretches for 14 km along the Biela voda Valley from Lúky to the Czech-Moravian border. SKI Čertov has five ski lifts serving 5.4 km of slopes. The ski resort also has seven runs and is located at an elevation of 600–900 m above sea level.

Nature

Part of the municipal territory of Lazy pod Makytou lies within the Kysuce Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Kysuce), which also includes the Čertov Nature Reserve. This nature reserve provides a habitat for brown bears, Eurasian lynxes and wolves. The Čertov Nature Reserve includes beech and beech-fir flowering forests, ravine forests with lime trees and maples, as well as spring areas in the hilly landscape.

Winter

The SKI Čertov complex includes the Alpinka ski school, a ski equipment rental service and a ski service centre. Ski Čertov Javorníky also offers 15 km of cross-country ski trails. In Čertov, the Wellness & Spa Hotel Čertov*** offers beer baths as a wellness experience.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary in Lazy pod Makytou dates from 1801 and preserves bells from 1721 from an earlier wooden church. The Evangelical church in Lazy pod Makytou was built in 1846–1859 on the site of an older Toleration church and features elements of Neo-Romanesque architecture. It preserves a baptismal font from 1801 and a bell from 1802.

Over the centuries, Lazy pod Makytou has preserved its Kopaničiarsky character, associated with cattle and sheep farming as well as agriculture. The House of History in Lazy pod Makytou displays traditional costumes, household vessels, a spinning wheel, a loom, old skis, flails and historical photographs. The cultural life also includes the recitation competition “Kýčerského spievanky”, held in Lazy pod Makytou in memory of the poet Pavol Kokeš-Kýčerský.

Remembrance

The Mladoňov war memorial is a national cultural monument. The Mladoňov educational trail focuses on the burning of the Mladoňov settlement by fascists during the Second World War.

Trails

Route 5314 runs through the entire municipal territory of Lazy pod Makytou to the Čertov recreation area. Cycle Route 5314 is a 15.6 km-long, green-marked asphalt route designated as a leisure route. In addition, the Mladoňov educational trail is a self-guided, linear, one-way hiking and cycling trail that can be used year-round. It is 1.1 km long and has an elevation gain of 42 m. The trail takes approximately 45 minutes, including the stops, and has seven stations.

Access

The Mladoňov educational trail begins on the main road at the turn-off to the Mladoňov settlement, next to the war memorial and a bus stop. Čertov can be reached by bus from Púchov railway station or from the stop near the post office in the direction of Lazy pod Makytou or Čertov; from there, it is a 300 m walk to Chata Alpina.
