Dobroč is now part of the municipality of Čierny Balog and is also its largest settlement. The former logging settlement already had good basic infrastructure around 1700. On 12 July 1774, Jozef Dekret Matejovie was born here as the son of the lumberjack Ján Dekret. He went on to become an important pioneer of modern forestry. A commemorative plaque marks the site of his former birthplace in Dobroč.
History
The Roman Catholic Church of the “Transfiguration of the Lord” in the Dobroč district was built between 1934 and 1936 by local believers themselves. On 16 October 1936, it was consecrated by Monsignor Andrej Hlinka. The consecration therefore took place in the same year that construction was completed. Its interior houses first-class relics of Saint Sister Faustina Kowalska, including part of a finger bone of the saint. The church is an immovable cultural monument in the Dobroč district.
The memory of the Slovak National Uprising and the partisans is also preserved in Dobroč. The monument “Monument – Murdered Partisans” in the Dobroč district is registered as a national cultural monument under ÚZPF number 124 and dates from 1959. Also registered as a national cultural monument is the partisan bunker from the period of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP); it bears ÚZPF number 127. The monument “Monument to the Victims of Fascism – Murdered Partisans” is located outside the Dobroč district in the Brôtovo area.
Routes
The blue loop of the Čiernohronská železnica provides a direct connection between Čierny Balog and Dobroč. It runs between the two places and passes by the football stadium. The blue loop to Dobroč is 4 km long and suitable for prams, bicycles, and dogs.
Nature
The Dobročský prales National Nature Reserve is located in the Brôtovo valley depression, approximately 6 km beyond the Dobroč district. This distance should be understood as an approximate figure. Public access to the nature reserve is prohibited. However, professionally guided excursions for forestry or other environment-related specialist groups are permitted.
