Discover Cristian: Church, Nature and Cartfest

If you would like to get to know Cristian through specific local sights, you can visit the fortified church. Its bell tower is accessible to visitors and offers views over the town from a height of around 63 metres. The complex also includes a double defensive wall and eight well-preserved defensive towers. In this way, the church combines views over Cristian with clearly recognisable defensive architecture.

Culture

Admission to the fortified church is free. Registration by telephone is required before your visit, which you should take into account when planning your time. A spiritual complement is the Schitul Sfântul Efrem cel Nou. The Schitul built in Cristian serves as a place of prayer, silence and welcoming believers. While the church is characterised by its wall, towers and bell tower, the religious use takes centre stage at the Schitul.

Nature and Trails

You can reach the reserve of venerable oak trees via the path along the edge of the forest. The Cristian–Drumul lui Lexen–Poiana Brașov route leads from Cristian to Poiana Brașov. The connection initially follows the Drumul lui Lexen trail and then continues along a paved road. For walks and those interested in trails, this provides two different landscape settings side by side: the oak reserve on the edge of the forest and the route towards Poiana Brașov.

The fortified church and the Schitul Sfântul Efrem cel Nou represent two different religious sites in Cristian: here, the defensive wall, towers and bell tower characterise the building, while there, prayer, silence and welcoming believers take centre stage. The destinations mentioned also differ outdoors: the oak reserve is tied to the edge of the forest, while the route via Drumul lui Lexen continues to Poiana Brașov. At Parcul Sonia, walking paths, benches, green spaces and playgrounds come together with recreational areas.

Park and Community

At Parcul Sonia, children will find well-equipped playgrounds, while recreational areas are available for adults. The park also includes walking paths, benches and carefully landscaped green spaces. Parcul Sonia is also a meeting place for the local community. Various events and activities take place there. Playgrounds, quiet areas and communal use thus coexist within the same park complex.

Events

The Cartfest events take place at Cristian’s main venues: the “Sala Mare”, the “Biserica Evanghelică”, the “Școală”, the “Piațeta centrală” and the “Dealul Bisericuței”. The eighth edition of Cartfest took place in Cristian from 10 to 15 September.

The programme thus incorporated various locations associated with community life: a large hall event, an evangelical church, a school, a small central square and the “Dealul Bisericuței”. Alongside the historic church complex, the Schitul and the paths along the edge of the forest, time-specific cultural events therefore also form part of the townscape.
