History
Bielsko was founded in the 13th century. In the 14th century, the city became part of the Kingdom of Bohemia; in 1526, Bielsko was incorporated into the Habsburg monarchy together with the Kingdom of Bohemia.
The present-day city of Bielsko-Biała was officially formed on 1 January 1951 through the merger of the formerly separate settlements of Bielsko and Biała. Both lay on opposite banks of the Biała River.
