Museum: exhibitions and collections

The Muzeum Północno-Mazowieckie presents five permanent exhibitions in its main building. One is devoted to amber. The latest version of the amber exhibition features raw amber, traditional tools for finding and working the material, and historical and contemporary amber products. The subject therefore encompasses both the raw material and its processing, as well as the objects made from it.

Another exhibition covers periods from the first people on the Narew in the 9th century BC to the Second World War. Objects on display include coins, vessels, weapons, tools, jewellery and historical photographs. If you are interested in different periods, you will find not only individual types of objects here, but also an exhibition spanning a broad range of time.

The museum also has one of the most extensive collections of kerosene lamps in Poland. The lamps date from the 19th and 20th centuries. This collection offers a distinct thematic focus alongside the exhibitions on amber and the history of the region. Cathedral and city history

The parish church in Łomża is dedicated to the Archangel Michael and John the Baptist and has been a cathedral since 1925. It is an oriented Late Gothic church with Baroque façade gables. This building therefore offers a chance to look at both its Late Gothic form and its Baroque-style gables as specific features. Its dedication and cathedral status add the church’s religious identity to the architectural perspective.
