Noresund
Accommodation in Noresund
Lake Krøderen is at its narrowest near Noresund. The wider destination of Krødsherad offers additional landscape and winter activities.
Getting here and finding your way
Noresund is on County Road 280, between Vikersund, Krøderen, and Ørgenvika. A road also branches off in Noresund along the western side of Lake Krøderen and towards Norefjell; it crosses a bridge over Lake Krøderen. These road connections are useful landmarks when planning your stay. It is worth distinguishing between destinations in the village and places in the wider destination of Krødsherad: they are not necessarily in the same location, even if they help you understand the region.
Heritage in and near Noresund
In the centre of Noresund, the protected oak “Den gamle mester” stands on the grounds of the Krødsherad vicarage. It became known through a poem by the vicar Jørgen Moe. Its conservation history is also noteworthy: in 1914, the old oak became the first nature conservation measure undertaken by the Norwegian Outdoor Recreation Council (Norsk Friluftsråd). The site combines a literary connection with an early conservation story.
Olberg Church, consecrated on 19 October 1859, is close to Noresund. Furnishings from the former church have been preserved there. Emanuel Vigeland created four choir windows in 1917. Alongside the oak, visitors interested in history and art will find another tangible point of interest in the local and regional history.
Boating and swimming
Storesand is a bathing area in Noresund. Olberg brygge has large free parking areas and easy access to the boat; check the conditions before travelling. On Bjørøya, a public boat ramp lies below the car park at Villa Fridheim, with a road leading down to it. We recommend checking local access rules before arriving.
The “Fjordcruise og damptog” trip departs from Olberg brygge and travels across the Krøderfjorden to Krøderen railway station. It is listed in the 2026 programme. If you are planning to take this trip, check the dates for upcoming departures. This helps distinguish the bathing area, boat ramp, and seasonal trip as different ways to enjoy time by the water.
Krødsherad as the wider setting
In the wider destination of Krødsherad, the municipality surrounds the southern part of Lake Krøderen and has a shoreline on the lake. The Krøderfjorden is 41 kilometres long. These regional landscape features complement the information on finding your way around Noresund, without describing individual places in the village.
For a winter perspective on Krødsherad, Norefjell offers further points of interest: there are two snow parks and three children’s areas. One of the snow parks is in Bøseter; the central Norefjellparken has runs for all ability levels. When snow conditions are sufficient, cross-country skiing trips can start directly at Norefjellstua and Norefjell Ski & Spa. Facilities may change; check the information before your trip.
Choose accommodation based on your travel interests
To narrow down accommodation in Noresund, first decide whether your plans are mainly focused on road access, heritage, or places by the water. Storesand and Olberg brygge are points of interest in the village, while the winter activities described are in the wider destination of Krødsherad and Norefjell. If several of these themes matter for your trip, this distinction can help you consider Noresund as a village destination and Krødsherad as the wider setting separately.
