Magliano: mountain village on Monte Tea with circular trails

Magliano lies at the foot of Monte Tea and between the sources of the Aulella and Serchio di Soraggio rivers. The mountain village is characterized by narrow paved alleyways, closely spaced houses and sandstone portals. Magliano is first documented in a testament dating from 793. In the upper part of Magliano, there was a fortress in the Middle Ages.

Circular trails with different starting points

PasseggianMangiando reached its fifth edition in 2025. The 2025 PasseggianMangiando route was an approximately 17-kilometre circular trail starting and ending in Magliano. The route passed the old Mulino di Magliano. PasseggianMangiando has reached its sixth edition. The 2026 PasseggianMangiando hike was an approximately 13-kilometre circular trail starting and ending at the Colonia di Magliano. There were six refreshment stations along this hike. Among other places, the route led to the Oratorio della Madonna di Loreto. For planning your day, the editions differ in terms of route length, starting point and refreshment stations. The approximately 17 kilometres in 2025 make for a longer route than the approximately 13 kilometres in 2026. On the second route, the six refreshment stations can be taken into account as break points. In 2025, the start and finish are in Magliano; in 2026, they are at the Colonia di Magliano. The respective starting point therefore also shapes the organisation of the day’s itinerary. The starting and finishing points should therefore not be confused when planning your day.

Further trails on Monte Tea

The Monte Tondo route passes the Mulino di Magliano. The former mill was recently converted into a residential building. On the Argegna e Tea route, a descent to the left leads to Magliano in about ten minutes. The municipality of Sillano Giuncugnano extends between the Parco Nazionale dell’Appennino Tosco-Emiliano and the Parco dell’Orecchiella and invites visitors to hike and trek in nature.

Chiesa di Sant’Andrea Apostolo

The Chiesa di Sant’Andrea Apostolo is believed to date from the 12th century. The Chiesa houses a wooden altarpiece from the 14th century. The 1739 vault painting was created by Giuseppe Morelli from Gragnola and depicts the martyrdom of Saint Andrew. The Chiesa also houses several relics of saints. The Chiesa di Sant’Andrea Apostolo has historical and religious significance as a sacred site. The parish church of Sant’Andrea in Magliano was reopened for services after suffering damage in the earthquake of 21 June 2013. The building’s age, altarpiece, vault painting and relics provide several clearly identifiable historical and religious points of reference.

Memorials in Magliano

The Monumento ai Caduti di Magliano commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars, as well as the civilian victims of the Second World War.
