Sacred Buildings and Historic Traces
Reconstruction work on the Chiesa di San Lorenzo Martire began in 1622. That year, Cardinal Maurizio founded the Collegiata dei Canonici with papal approval. The church preserves murals and canvas paintings by Enrico Reffo and Federico Siffredi, as well as an altarpiece by Joseph Ouvertus.

The Chiesa dei BatĂą has an organ dating from 1781 by the Concone brothers, which has been preserved in its original structure. The Chiesa di San Rocco was probably built in 1646 following a vow made by the municipal council in response to the plague epidemic of 1630. The Chiesa di San Rocco contains works by the painter Alessandro Trono, as well as a monochrome painting depicting San Rocco together with San Sebastiano and San Carlo Borromeo.
The Pieve di San Lorenzo in Giaveno is documented in records dating from the early 12th century. Mulin du Detu is a historic mill in the Ruata Bassa district of Giaveno and was built in 1218. Mulin du Detu was formerly an abbey mill and belonged to the Benedictine monks of Sacra di San Michele Abbey. Francesco Gonin lived and worked at Villa Marsili from 1877 to 1889.
Routes and Landscape Details
The Sentiero Augusto Monti is a circular trail in the valley of the Torrente Romarolo within the municipal area of Giaveno. The Itinerari della Resistenza in Giaveno comprise two publicly accessible trails with information panels and images. QR codes can be used there to access additional information, short films and eyewitness accounts.
The Sentiero dell’antica frontiera passes the still clearly recognizable remains of French fortifications from the 17th century at Colle del Besso. The Sentiero delle Vite passes several ruined houses, wayside shrines and dry-stone walls that bear witness to the former rural mountain settlement.
Along the Sentiero delle Rocce, a stream flows between rock walls over large slabs of light-colored gneiss. The trail passes small waterfalls and very clear pools.
Bread, Mushrooms and Seasonal Events
The Giaveno CittĂ del Buon Pane event takes place in September and has continued since 2003. On Piazza Mautino, visitors can watch parts of the bread-making process. As part of this event, the historic mills Mulin du Detu and Mulino della Bernardina were open to visitors.
Fungo in Festa is a traditional event in Giaveno that usually takes place in October and is accompanied by an annual mushroom exhibition. From September to October, Giaveno's event program features gastronomic traditions and festivals centered around bread, potatoes, mushrooms and Bagna CĂ oda. Giaveno also has a tradition of producing large historic bread shapes such as micca, biove, mezzana and stirotto.
Spiritual Architecture
The Santuario Nostra Signora di Lourdes contains a replica of the Lourdes grotto in the left transept. The building is designed in the Romanesque-Lombard style and completely clad in stone.
