Fabbrica Curone: Mountain Trails, Culture and Winter Sports

Fabbrica Curone is ideal for trekking, walking, horseback riding, mountain biking and skiing due to its location, and offers numerous marked trails. The Sentiero Fabbrica Curone–Selvapiana begins in the town of Fabbrica Curone opposite the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta. It initially follows a paved road and then continues as an unpaved path marked by the CAI with route number 104.

Marked Trails and Panoramic Views

The Sentiero Fabbrica Curone–Selvapiana is classified as a Category E trail, is 6.93 km long and has a stated walking time of 2 hours. The Sentiero Serra del Monte–Fabbrica Curone descends towards Fabbrica Curone along a scenic ridge trail between downy oaks, manna ashes and black pines; some sections have a steep gradient.

The Sentiero Caldirola–Monte Ebro is classified as a Category E trail, is 4.77 km long and has a stated walking time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The trail reaches Monte Ebro at an altitude of 1,700 m; in clear weather, the summit offers a 360-degree view of the Alps and the Ligurian Sea.

Museums and Religious Heritage

The Museo della Civiltà Contadina “Lunassi” preserves tools, equipment, machines, documents and objects illustrating the historical rural life of the mountains. The museum is divided into 26 sections and has more than 600 exhibits; today, only about half of them are on display.

In the hamlet of Lunassi, the traditional method of making charcoal is called Carbonaia in Italian and is regularly demonstrated by the Circolo Lunassese. The Museo della Civiltà Contadina “Morigliassi” covers approximately 300 m² and has more than 2,000 original objects, including several rare pieces.

The Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta continues to be used as a parish church following its uninterrupted religious use. The church dates from the 12th or 13th century and has three naves. Above the entrance portal is a bas-relief made of local stone featuring complex zoomorphic symbolism.

Winter Sports and Bike Park in Caldirola

Caldirola has four downhill ski slopes, including a practice area for beginners, as well as a cross-country skiing trail on the slopes of Monte Gropà. Caldirola is the only winter sports resort in the province of Alessandria equipped for winter sports.

The Caldirola chairlift runs from the settlement of La Gioia at 1,110 m in the municipality of Fabbrica Curone to Monte Gropà at 1,446 m.

The Caldirola Bike Park includes 4 downhill, 3 freeride, 3 all-mountain and 1 cross-country trail. It also features jumps of varying difficulty, bypass options for less experienced riders, berms and technically challenging sections. On the slopes of Monte Gropà and Monte Giarolo, the bike park has 11 trails accessible by chairlift.

Agriculture and Horse-Riding Activities
