Nature and trails
A hike in Markaz in 2021 included the Pusztatemplom, the lake, the Kálvária, and several viewpoints. There is also a cycle path along the lake, created by converting a lakeside walking trail. The lake is suitable for water sports; when it freezes over, it can be used as an ice-skating rink.
Marked trails lead from the town center via Kékestető to the route of the National Blue Tour. The Mária út continues around the southern side of the reservoir to the dam. The Szent-János Chapel stands on the outskirts of Markaz along the Mária út.
Culture and history
The Markazi Tájház exhibits folk costumes, furnishings, and tools from the early 20th century. The Míves Tojás Magángyűjtemény has a permanent exhibition featuring decorated eggs and old household items.
Archaeological excavations identified the Pusztatemplom as a Romanesque single-nave church with a semicircular apse. The church dates from the late 13th or early 14th century. Its remains may become visible when the water level of the reservoir is low. The ruins of Markazi vár offer a panorama of the surrounding area.
Local traditions
Markaz is associated with viticulture and winemaking traditions dating back to the 1400s.
