Pellérd: Hotels and Accommodation

History

Pellérd was first recorded in a document from 1305 under the name “Pellart”. In the same year, the settlement was the meeting place of Baranya County. Pellérd had a parish in the 14th century, as documented by papal tithe lists compiled for the years 1332 to 1335. Pellérd was also the site of Hungary’s first silk-weaving factory.

Pellérd’s architectural heritage includes the Szent Margit Templom and the Szent Kereszt Kápolna.

Villagescape and Wine

The villagescape includes numerous peasant houses with arcades, as well as craftsmen’s houses preserved in their original condition. Pellérd’s vineyards cover 60 hectares. Szőlőhegy is a tourism programme where visitors can taste wines in a scenic setting.

Archaeology

Pellérd’s Late Bronze Age remains include objects excavated in 1961: a small faceted vessel, a fragment of a vessel with a handle, and a spindle whorl. Finds from the Roman period were unearthed during earthworks west of Pellérd. The Avar-period heritage includes an iron knife and a vessel found during earthworks beside the Pécsi-víz.

Medieval sherds, coffin nails, and an intricately decorated thurible were found during road construction near Pellérd’s Roman Catholic church. In 1825, a 69-piece Roman hoard was also discovered in the vicinity of Pellérd.

Pellérd is approximately 10 kilometres from the nearby city, with a journey time of around 15 minutes.
