Landwüst between the Open-Air Museum and Wirtsberg

In the Landwüst district of Markneukirchen, one section of the Vogtland Open-Air Museum features more than 40 historically preserved buildings. The museum section of the Vogtland Open-Air Museum displays more than 40 historically preserved buildings. St. Lawrence Church in Landwüst is home to a Trampeli organ. The Trampeli organ builders designed their organs in the tradition of Gottfried Silbermann, who lived from 1683 to 1753. They adopted his principles, but were not his pupils. The organ in Landwüst therefore offers its own perspective on the history of music and organ building: its connection to Silbermann is established through the principles they adopted, not through a direct teacher-pupil relationship.

Wirtsberg with observation tower and summit house

Wirtsberg near Landwüst is a distinctive landmark. A summit house stands on the mountain, which rises to over 664 metres. Seating, a photo spot and an information board about the triangulation point have been installed around the observation tower. These features make Wirtsberg a place where views, relaxation and geographical orientation come together.

The observation tower offers hikers shelter from severe weather, unobstructed views in all directions and orientation across the surrounding area. The unobstructed view is not merely a visual aspect. Together with the information board about the triangulation point, a stay on Wirtsberg also takes on an informative and orientation-related dimension. The seating and photo spot, like the information board, are among the features installed around the observation tower.

It has an octagonal shape and offers panoramic views on two levels. At Wirtsberg, visitors will therefore find the observation tower with its unobstructed views in all directions and the two-storey summit house with panoramic views.

Architectural history in Landwüst

The historic buildings in Landwüst include a residential stable house and the barn of a two-sided farmstead. The residential stable house has one storey, while the barn is clad in boarding. Both buildings contain a log room and are of architectural-historical significance. The residential stable house dates from before 1800.
