Ten Gemaahnsweeschelscher circular hiking trails run around Götzenberg and Stöffel. The range extends from easy paths of 5 kilometres to difficult routes of 30 kilometres. The entire network comprises approximately 136 kilometres of circular trails and around 2,250 metres of elevation gain and loss.
Trail orientation
GPX files and Komoot links are available for loading the Gemaahnsweeschelscher routes onto smartphones or navigation devices. The trails start at the village community centre on Zum Stöffel road; parking is available there. From Rotenhain railway station, the starting point can be reached via a footpath of approximately 1 kilometre.
The Gemaahnsweeschelscher trails are not marked with signs, symbols or information boards.
History and geology
The Stockum–Götzenberg–Bellingen excursion is a 9.8-kilometre route covering local history, geology, fauna and flora. Its historical scope ranges from the Tertiary period through the Celtic and medieval eras and the Thirty Years' War to the present day.
The thematic excursion includes the presumed site of a Celtic ring wall on Götzenberg and prehistoric burial mounds.
The Stöffel Mouse Tour is associated with a significant fossil deposit containing the fossil “Stöffel Mouse”. It leads around Stockum-Püschen and onwards to Stöffel Basalt Park.
