Bruschied: Hotels and Accommodation

Bruschied is located in the Lützelsoon landscape, a quartzite mountain range with hiking access. A trail to the 569-metre-high Teufelsfels offers views across the Hunsrück, the Idar Forest and the Nahe Valley as far as the Donnersberg area; Bruschied is part of the surrounding landscape.

Nature

The Hunsrück-Nahe region is home to ancient beech forests, extensive upland plateaus, high biological diversity and regional cultural landscapes. The Hunsrück-Nahe hiking region offers the Saar-Hunsrück Trail, the Soonwald Trail, the Hildegard von Bingen Pilgrimage Trail, the Dream Loops and the Vital Tours.

Culture

The Marienkapelle of Bruschied stands on the road to Schneppenbach and was built in 1699. It contains an inscription on the foundation stone from the same year. A small bell was added in 1704 and bears the inscription “Ora pro nobis - Jesus Maria Josef Elisabeth ano 1704”. In 1854, Bruschied carpenter Matthias Johann Römer added a tower top to the chapel. During renovation work in 1921, a small seated wooden figure of a devil was discovered, interpreted as an old protective charm. The Marienkapelle is a listed monument.

The foundation stone for Bruschied’s new parish church was laid on 26 September 1892. St. Francis Xavier Church was built in 1892/93 as a single-nave, plastered Neo-Gothic building with a 5/8 choir and blessed on 4 December 1893, the feast day of its patron saint, St. Francis Xavier. A Stations of the Cross was installed in the parish church in 1895. The interior of St. Francis Xavier also contains several works of art dating from around 1700.

History

The village square was created in 1988/89 on a former garden plot. The village fountain was artistically designed by Gerald Winter. It takes the form of an open hand holding a round bowl from which water flows. Reliefs can be seen on the north wall of the old bakery near the village square.

Places to Visit

Rudolfshaus, a district of Bruschied in the Hahnenbach Valley, provides walking access to the ruins of the medieval Schmidtburg Castle, the Herrenberg slate mine and fossil museum, and the Celtic settlement of Altburg. Schmidtburg Castle was first mentioned as a fortified castle in 962 and later served as an administrative centre before large parts of it were destroyed in 1688.

The Herrenberg visitor mine near Bundenbach presents the work of slate miners, fossils and a small mining museum. It was adapted to make it accessible to wheelchair users. In Bruschied, Hunsrückbikes offers services for bicycle tyres, brakes, drivetrains, lighting and spare parts.

The Hunsrück-Nahe region combines traditional recipes, fresh ingredients and a vibrant food culture.
