Gieleroth: Hotels and Accommodation

The Postweiher pond in Gieleroth is a historic pond that was probably created in the Middle Ages for an earlier horse-changing station. It has been designated a protected landscape feature since 1986; locally, it is considered a natural and cultural monument.

Culture and History

The oldest written records of Gieleroth and Herpteroth date from 1408 and can be found in the records of Marienstatt Abbey. The Reinhardshof is one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Gieleroth. The building served for a time as an important horse-changing station. A Thurn-&-Taxis postal route between Cologne and Frankfurt was probably established around 1490.

Gieleroth is also reached on Tour 7, before the route crosses Federal Highway 8. The Holzweg trail passes the Rauher Stein. This is located in a forest between Oberwambach, Almersbach and Amteroth.

Hiking trails run through a natural low mountain landscape in the Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld area. These include family-friendly trails, themed trails and circular routes. Maps and elevation profiles are available for the hiking routes.
