Warstein offers several distinct attractions for a stay: marked hiking trails, the Hillenberg climbing arena, Bilsteintal and Bullerteich Pond with the Trockelsknäppchen Spring. When choosing accommodation in Warstein, you can start by considering which activities you want to focus on. The hiking trails vary in length and have designated difficulty levels; other options include cycling, climbing and a wildlife park. The following places and routes offer practical ideas to help you plan.

Hiking around the Lörmecke Tower

The town lists a total of 540 kilometres of marked hiking trails in the Warstein municipal area. This total may change if trails are revised.

Two routes to the Lörmecke Tower can be distinguished by their length. Hiking Trail 1 is 16.5 kilometres long and passes through Bilsteintal, Paradies and Hubertusquelle Spring on its way to the tower, then continues to the Lörmecke Tower car park and Sedansteich Pond. Hiking Trail 2 is 6.3 kilometres long and runs from the Lörmecke Tower car park via Kapellenplatz to the tower.

Another option is the moderately difficult Lörmecke Tower circular hike. After about 2.5 kilometres, it passes the ITH XXL bench and leads to the 35-metre-high Lörmecke Tower. From the tower, panoramic views extend from the Hochsauerland region across the Haarstrang ridge and the Westphalian Bay to the Teutoburg Forest.

Bilsteintal: Hiking and Wildlife Park

The Bilsteintal circular hike is very easy and runs mainly along natural trails on the WaldKulTour Bergbau route. Seven information boards along the route provide information about mining in the forest. The loop is recommended as a pleasant hike for families with children; afterwards, the forest playground in Bilsteintal is a good option.

The wildlife park in Bilsteintal is home to red deer, sika deer, raccoons, foxes, wild boar and lynxes. The animal population may change. Bilsteintal is also an information centre for Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. It can be reached by public transport on bus route R76; check the latest travel information before setting off.

Cycling and Climbing

The 17.9-kilometre Bilsteintal No. 47 mountain bike loop has 269 metres of elevation gain. Thirty-six percent of the route runs along natural trails, with the rest on gravel forest roads. Trail conditions may vary. The Bilsteintal archery course is run by Bilsteintal e.V. and lies west of the wildlife park, on the far side of the L 735.

Several rock faces at the Hillenberg climbing arena offer routes for sport and alpine climbers, as well as active families and beginners. The routes range in difficulty from grade 3 to grade 9; the rock faces are over 50 metres high.

Springs and Events

Bullerteich Pond lies in the northern part of the Warstein district. The Trockelsknäppchen Spring is opposite. It was discovered in the limestone rock during construction of an air-raid shelter in the Second World War and can now be viewed through windows.

The Warsteiner Montgolfiade is one of the events that attracts many visitors from outside the town year after year. If it is the reason for your trip, check the specific event dates in advance.
