Wildewiese combines a clearly defined ski area with winter trails, tobogganing opportunities and viewpoints. The ski area is situated at an elevation of 540 to 645 metres and has five lifts, several runs ranging from 100 to 1,200 metres in length, as well as several groomed cross-country ski trails. For you, this means that you can view the destination both in terms of alpine winter sports and in terms of cross-country skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing and experiences in the landscape.

Ski area with natural snow, lifts and floodlit slopes

An important special feature of Wildewiese is its character as a purely natural-snow area. Snowmaking systems cannot be operated there due to the water supply. Artificial snowmaking is therefore not part of the ski area's offering; snow conditions must be considered in the context of natural snow. This distinction is essential when planning a day of skiing because it clearly sets the area apart from ski resorts with snowmaking systems.

Almost 6 kilometres of floodlit slopes also make night skiing possible. The lighting adds skiing in the dark to Wildewiese's winter sports profile.

Tobogganing as a winter alternative

The toboggan slope is located directly at the entrance to the village, on the left-hand side of the road, and can be reached directly from the car parks via public paths. This means that, in addition to the slopes, Wildewiese has a tobogganing option in a clearly defined location.

Schomberg Tower and circular trail

The Wildewiese ski area is home to the 65-metre-high Vodafone microwave communications tower. It is known as Schomberg Tower and has an observation platform at a height of 30 metres. In clear weather, the panoramic views extend beyond the northern Ruhr area and the Lippeland as far as MĂĽnster, 85 kilometres away, the Teutoburg Forest and the communications tower near Bielefeld, 90 kilometres away.

The „Around Schomberg in Wildewiese“ circular trail is 2.7 kilometres long, marked W2 and passes by Schomberg Tower. The route can be viewed as a separate activity alongside skiing and offers a specific opportunity to explore Schomberg on foot.

Winter trails through mountain landscapes and history

Longer trails also connect Wildewiese with the surrounding villages. The Sauerland-Höhenflug follows a roughly 19-kilometre stage from Altenaffeln via the small mining village of Hagen to Wildewiese. The „Hagen Trail“ leads from the church in Hagen through the mountains to Wildewiese. Both routes therefore differ from the short circular trails around Schomberg.

Another winter route leads from the hilltop village of Wildewiese to Faulebutter. The Schlubberbruch rest area is located along the route. Charcoal burners' families lived there until the end of the 19th century; numerous circular charcoal-burning sites in the forests bear witness to the area's former charcoal production. The Sauerland-Höhenflug winter hike from Wildewiese to Faulebutter is designated as an 8.5-kilometre circular tour. This route therefore combines the winter landscape with a specific insight into the former use of the forests.

Landscape around the Sorpe spring

Wildewiese is located at the source of the Sorpe. The landscape also includes the 60.9-hectare „Wildewiese“ landscape conservation area. Its designation protects the remaining open spaces around Wildewiese that are used as grassland. The Sorpe spring and the protected grassland areas provide the village with a landscape setting that extends beyond the ski area itself.
