Village history at the old town hall

The Rückers tradition is a specific part of Laisa’s local history. It has been preserved as a spring custom from pagan times, is celebrated at Easter every seven years and can be traced back to 1842; its tradition is probably considerably older, however. During Rückers time, the Rückers figure stands on the roof of the old Laisa town hall, now the local history museum, for 40 days from 9 March. The wooden figure depicts a ploughing farmer with a farmhand behind a team of five horses.

The Laisa local history museum is located in the old town hall, which was built around 1870 opposite the church. The exhibition focuses on rural everyday culture from the last quarter of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

The Rückers festival includes the auction, in a closed session by the young men of Laisa, of the village’s confirmed and still unmarried girls. Since 1933, the young men’s association has also performed the Webetanz at the Rückers festival.

The “Wet Meadow with Amphibian Pond” natural monument is located at “Auf dem roten Bruch”, approximately 1.3 kilometres southwest of Laisa. It comprises a 1.62-hectare complex of fresh and wet meadows with an amphibian pond.

Baking tradition and Sunday café

The communal bakery with two brick-built stone ovens has been preserved in the Laisa local history museum. Bread is still baked in them at regular intervals today.

At the Milchhäuschen in Laisa, the volunteer Sunday café team serves homemade cakes, coffee and soft drinks. Hikers and cyclists are welcome at the Sunday café.
