Cycling and Nordic Walking

The Baunatal Circular Route is a leisure cycling route in Baunatal for the whole family. Baunatal’s cycling network includes the long-distance cycle route R1, the Eder Cycle Route, the Hessencourierweg, the Märchenlandweg, the Chattengauweg R21 and the cycle route around Baunatal. The names offer different kinds of guidance: R1 is explicitly designated as a long-distance cycle route, while the cycle route around Baunatal names the town in its title. You can choose from a family-oriented leisure loop and several other named cycling routes.

The Baunsberg section of the Nordic walking routes comprises two stretches through the Baunsberg, with a total elevation gain of 100 metres. The Nordic walking route is signposted from Altenbauna. Its course, sections and elevation provide practical details for planning your day. If elevation changes factor into your choice of route, you can take the 100 metres of elevation gain into account. The route on the Baunsberg therefore offers a different planning focus from the cycling routes listed above.

Sculptures and leisure in the city park

The sculpture trail runs along the Bauna, where you’ll encounter numerous modern sculptures along the way. As a circular route, it passes through Baunatal City Park and by all the sculptures there. If you enjoy combining outdoor art with a walk, this offers a clear focus for your stay. The trail links the route along the Bauna with the artworks in the park.

The city park also has a skate park with ramps, rails, banks and quarter pipes. It is designed for skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters and inline skates, and welcomes beginners as well as experienced professionals. For groups with varying levels of experience, this stated range is a useful guide. The listed sports also show that the facility is not just for skateboards. The sculpture trail and skate park offer two different ways to enjoy the same park.

Cultural history and historic sites

In GroĂźenritte, the HĂĽnstein is a menhir made of quartzite and approximately two metres tall. Its approximate height and material provide a specific context for this historic stone without requiring you to keep track of a longer sequence of construction phases.

During the Middle Ages, the medieval fortified church in Kirchbauna served as a refuge for people and livestock. The present-day church was built in 1773. Its function and construction history therefore belong to different periods: the role as a place of refuge is recorded for the medieval fortified church, whereas the year 1773 refers to the present-day church. This distinction helps separate its historical significance from its construction history.

Baunatal has three Eco Paths devoted to cultural history. One is called “Cultural History of Hertingshausen and Kirchbauna.” The Eco Paths make regional history accessible on foot; the title of this route names two districts and a clear historical focus. If you’re looking for a route with a cultural history theme, its name offers clear guidance. The Hünstein and fortified church add two specific historic sites to the picture of local history.

A leisure attraction with an important date

AquaPark offers activities for young people, athletes and the whole family. It will be temporarily closed for maintenance from 30 October to 13 December 2026. If your planned stay falls within this period, take the closure into account when planning your day. The groups mentioned also offer a guide when deciding whether the attraction suits your travel group’s interests.
